LoopCast › Loop a slideshow on a TV

How to loop a slideshow on a TV.

All you need is a laptop, an HDMI cable and a folder of pictures. Here’s how to get them repeating on the TV, full screen, for as long as you like.

What you need

  • A Windows laptop or a Mac.
  • A cable from the laptop to the TV, usually HDMI. Newer laptops may need a USB-C to HDMI adapter.
  • Your pictures, videos or PDFs in one folder.

1. Connect the TV

Plug the cable into the laptop and the TV, then switch the TV to that HDMI input with its remote.

2. Set the TV as a second screen

Windows: press the Windows key and P together, then choose Extend. Mac: open System Settings › Displays and make sure the TV is set as an extended display, not a mirror.

Extending matters: the TV shows the slideshow while your laptop keeps the controls, so you can change things without the room seeing.

3. Start the loop

  1. Download LoopCast (free) or open it in your browser.
  2. Choose your folder. Each folder inside it becomes a playlist.
  3. Press Show on projector. LoopCast opens full screen on the TV.
  4. Press play. It repeats until you stop it.

Tips for a slideshow people actually read

  • Make slides 16:9 (1920×1080) so they fill the TV with no black bars.
  • Keep text big and short. Eight to ten seconds per slide is a good start.
  • Use MP4 for video; it plays everywhere.
  • Turn off the laptop’s sleep setting so the TV doesn’t go dark mid-event.

Only one screen?

If the laptop is the screen, press the F key in LoopCast to fill it. Esc brings the controls back.

Ready when the doors open.

Your computer will show a security warning the first time you open it. That’s expected. Here’s why, and what to click.
